Durga Puja Pictures

Make your Durga Puja celebrations colorful and more spiritual with exclusive Durga Pictures!
Maa Durga, the symbol of ‘Sakti’ or power, is worshipped by her devotees with much enthusiasm.
Usually, this festival is celebrated in late September or early October. A lot of preparations are done beforehand for Durga Puja festivities; but if you want to see traditional flavors, Calcutta (Kolkata) in West Bengal is the perfect place.
Durga Puja 2010 celebrations will begin from 13th September and end on 17th September. Each day of the festivities holds special significance and is given specific names such as:
  • Shasti – 6th day

  • Saptami – 7th day

  • Ashtami – 8th day

  • Navami – 9th day

  • Dasami – 10th day

Several months ahead, the artisans get busy making grand and opulent Durga Idols. Once the idols are ready, they are decorated with glittery jewels and beautiful saris. On Shasti or the sixth day of the festival, the idols are taken to their respective mandapas or pavilions for worship.
