A decorated wooden charkah on display. Charkah, the large spinning wheel was a knitting instrument that was used in India in the pre-independence era. The use of charkah reached its height during the swadeshi movement when Mahatma Gandhi made the call to quit the use of foreign clothes and goods. This spinning wheel is indeed a symbol of India's war of independence. |
